Leah has a beauty Salon on Kensington called ‘Le Spa’. Le Spa offers all nail treatments plus creative nails; spray tans, waxing treatments, lash extensions, dermalogica facials.

Leah has recently extended her services by training to do semi permanent make-up.

When Leah first saw Dream highs Enterprise Facilitator all she had was a dream in her mind of having her own business, but she had no idea how she could make it happen. After the first meeting Claire asked Leah to complete a small task, this was a test of Leah’s passion, once this was done it was full steam ahead.

Claire put Leah in touch with the Princes Trust for them to help with funding, a meeting was set up and Leah asked Claire to attend the meeting with her as some moral support. At the meeting the Princes Trust Advisor ran through with Leah the things that she would need to make her application to the Trust.

“ I had always wanted to start my own business but I hadn’t a clue where to start and when you are only 19 everything seems really daunting. Having Claires support and guidance has been really important, especially because she would come with me to meetings that I needed to attend such as the bank and the Princes Trust”

Leah began the journey of putting together her Business Plan, she did this independently, but with ongoing support from Claire who gave Leah reassurance, and also requested guidance from Dream high panel members, this involved help with marketing sections and the financial section.

When the plan was almost complete Claire arranged for Leah to meet with another contact, this time from HSBC Bank. Again Leah asked Claire to go with her, and it was during this meeting that Leah opened her business bank account.

“I have managed projects in paid employment for many years, but for some reason when you are setting up a business of your own it is really hard to see things clearly, talking things through with Claire helped me to clarify things and put action plans together”

Once the bank account was in place and her plan completed, a Dream high panel member offered to critic the plan and fine tune it. Leah then returned to the Princes Trust and they helped her to put the application together for both Princes Trust and Liverpool Visions Business Start up Grant.

All the time Leah was working on her plan etc, she was also working to find a suitable property to open her beauty salon. When she had found some premises she thought would be ideal she discussed it with Claire, asked a DH Panel member to confirm that it was not part of the demolition programme that had been scheduled in Kensington.

The final stage of Leah’s Princes Trust application was to be interviewed by the Princes Trust Board, Claire offered to attend, but Leah’s confidence had grown such that she felt confident enough to attend alone.

“I had been working on setting up my business for a long time, I knew I had a strong business plan, and an excellent product, the only thing stopping me was being unable to open a business bank account due to past credit problems. The Dream High panel used their networks and resources and now I have a bank account and my business is up and running.”

Leah’s application was a success and finally she was able to sign her lease on her new shop. The shop was in a really bad state of disrepair, but through her continued hard work, determination and passion she made the shop a professional, modern and stylish salon.

During the renovations Leah also had a massive amount of support from family and friends.

Around 8 months after meeting Claire and working with Dream high, Leah launched Le Spa and Dream high was able to help by a DH panel member doing some PR for Leah in the Daily Post and Echo.

Leah has now been trading for 2 years and employs 1 part time member of staff.

Now that Leah has established her business, she still keeps in touch with Claire, it may be that Leah doesn’t contact Claire for several months she knows that she only has to contact Claire if she needs help or information.

For example. Leah recently decided that she wanted to extend her services so that she could offer semi-permanent make-up, but she couldn’t afford the training that was involved. Leah contacted Claire who put her in touch with a skill works funding provider. This enabled Leah to access funding to help her pay for the training.

The launch of a new beauty salon in Liverpool is the realisation of a dream for a young Liverpool woman.

The salon has opened eight months after 19 year old Leah Eaton first made contact with business support initiative, Dream High.

Dream High enterprise facilitator Claire Baker and her panel of volunteer advisors helped Leah put together a business plan and apply for funds from the Princes Trust and Business Liverpool.

“I have always wanted to run my own business and now that I have opened my own salon it feels a bit scary – but fantastic!” said Leah, of Kensington.

“Claire from Dream High has helped me from the start, putting me in touch with the right people and helping me with funding, as well as giving lots of moral support.”

Leah gained several beauty therapy and nail technician qualifications at Liverpool Community College and began working as a beautician in a rented room at a sunbed shop.

“Even while I was at school I was interested in all the beauty treatments and made up my mind I wanted to run my own salon. I saw an empty shop in Kensington which I thought would be ideal, but before I met Claire I didn’t know how to go about setting up the business. With the loan from the Princes Trust and a grant from Business Liverpool I have rented the building and refurbished and equipped the salon.”

Claire Baker added: “It is great to see the launch of Le Spa after helping Leah from the outset. She is a determined and talented person who has created a modern and stylish salon and I am sure Le Spa will attract a lot of clients.”

Le Spa offers all nail treatments plus creative nails; Dermalogica facials, studio tans and ‘Fake Bake’  tans; waxing treatments; lash and brown tints and lash extensions. Wedding and party packages are available and the salon is open from Monday to Saturday at 89 Kensington. Tel ?? (do you want me to include a contact no?)
