The beat of African drums is helping to energise business meetings in Liverpool.
New company Drum Planet has launched a programme of motivational workshops after help from support initiative Dream High.
Drum Planet founder Alphonse Sehi bi Sany said: “Everybody in the audience is given an authentic African drum and within minutes the drumming releases energy and transforms the audience into a united drumming orchestra.”
Alphonse said he was inspired to start the business after being bored at a conference. “After lunch was the worst time, everybody seemed very tired and were even drifting off to sleep. Then I remembered that back home in Africa in an event like this, after lunch is when the fun stuff starts. We would play drums for about 15 minutes to make us active and focused because drumming is physical but not aggressive.”
From that moment, the idea for the business grew and the company now owns more than 10,000 drums and caters for small or large numbers of participants.
A recent workshop was at RS Clare and Co’s strategy day, involving around 50 staff from the specialist lubricants and coatings company.
Ian Meadows, Managing Director of RS Clare, said: “We had 55 drums in the room at the start of our business strategy day, and it worked brilliantly. Everyone was energised and ready for the session, which we hold twice a year to review our business and plan for the future. I would recommend a drumming workshop to be part of every organisation’s away day.”
Dream High Facilitator Claire Chang has provided business development and marketing advice through the project’s panel of volunteer business and community advisers.
